Karen Morgan
Councillor | Hutt City Council
I grew up in Ōpunake, a small town in Taranaki. From an early age I was heavily involved in several sports, drama productions/musicals, and post school at university went on to play representative netball and basketball for Manawatu.
After my first teaching position at Freyberg High School in Palmerston North, and in between doing a little acting (including a couple of stints on Shortland Street) I moved to the USA, Santa Barbara, for two years and worked there as a Gang Prevention Specialist, working closely with the police. On returning to New Zealand, I pursued my teaching career and consequently worked in a number of different schools across the country, progressing through the management responsibilities.
My upbringing and life experiences have helped shape my values, and it is my moral compass that always guides my decisions. My driver has always been to serve a community, and it is people that are the absolute taonga and most precious treasure we must always look after.
